The intensive depression and anxiety camp-based treatment program combines psychoeducation, skills training groups, and exposure activities to provide a fun summer camp experience. Camp integrates evidence-based group and individual interventions (CBT, DBT, ACT, behavioral activation, values-based exposure) to deliver a values-based program designed to decrease anxiety and depression and improve the individual’s well-being, self-esteem, and social connectedness.
Individuals aged 14-22 are eligible to participate in camp.
Treatment Goals
- Provide participants with education about anxiety and other emotions (specifically symptoms of social anxiety, generalized anxiety or worry, performance anxiety, school avoidance, OCD, body image issues, poor self-esteem and depression).
- Teach and practice coping skills to improve participants’ ability to identify, understand, and manage emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.
- Participate in daily activities across the Boston area specifically designed help individuals generalize newly-learned concepts and skills within fun, social environments.
A Typical Day:
9am – 10am: Identifying Emotions group (Teach thought and emotion recognition)
10am – 11am: Understanding Emotions group (Develop an understanding of what emotions are telling us)
11am – 12pm: Managing Emotions group (Develop coping skills and practice values-based exposure activities)
12pm – 1pm: Lunch (Scheduled lunch activities and exposures)
1pm – 4pm: Behavioral Activation/Exposure Activities (Scheduled off-site activities such as laser tag, a picnic in Boston Common, etc.)
