Dr. Carl Fleisher

Co-Director & Medical Director

Dr. Fleisher is Co-Director and Medical Director of BCSC-LA. Dr. Fleisher is a board-certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist specializing in evidence-based treatment for anxiety, depression and emotion dysregulation disorders in children, adolescents, young adults and families.

Dr. Fleisher earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency and fellowship training at the UCLA Semel Institute and Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital. After fellowship, Dr. Fleisher joined the faculty of Harvard Medical School with a position at McLean Hospital where he directed a residential program for anxiety disorders while also serving in McLean’s clinic providing mentalizing based therapy for borderline personality disorder (BPD).

Dr Fleisher returned to Los Angeles to help grow and strengthen UCLA’s clinical program, particularly for individuals struggling with BPD and emotion dysregulation. Dr. Fleisher has been in practice for over 10 years, serving Los Angeles families as an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCLA, in a private practice in Beverly Hills, and as BCSC-LA’s medical director and a Co-Director.

His approach is child- and family-centered and grounded in developing a thorough understanding of the clinical problem across biological, psychological, behavioral, functional, and systemic factors. He then works with clients and families to create an evidence-based treatment plan with clear and measurable goals for improvement. He looks to medication only as a last resort, and only using as small a dose as possible. When children do need medication, Dr. Fleisher expects that will be brief, with a clear justification and measurable goals.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his children, running, and watching sports.
