Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT) is an extremely effective, evidence-based treatment for PTSD and trauma-related symptoms in youth ages 3-18. TF-CBT aims to give youth (and their parents) new skills to identify, understand, and manage their distressing thoughts, emotions, and behaviors related to the trauma.

TF-CBT protocol is designed to provide individual sessions for the youth and the caregiver(s) as well as joint sessions for both. However, parental participation is not a prerequisite for the treatment.

Components of TF-CBT include psychoeducation, positive parenting skills, relaxation strategies, emotion regulation skills, cognitive processing, narration of the trauma, in-vivo (real-life) exposure to trauma cues, and coping ahead for the end of treatment (e.g., concerns around the youth’s safety and development).
