The aim of this introductory workshop is to present participants with the theoretical foundations and adaptations underlying Dialectical Behavior Therapy plus Prolonged Exposure (DBT PE) and DBT PTSD for PTSD and/or complex trauma. DBT PE and DBT PTSD are evidence-based treatments for PTSD and co-occurring suicidal and non-suicidal self-harm behaviors. Participants will be introduced to these interventions through didactics, discussion, and case examples.

Community Training Initiative – Dialectical Exposure Therapy Training at BCSC-LA

This is an introductory workshop on Dialectical Exposure Therapy (DET): a trans-diagnostic intervention for the assessment and treatment of anxiety, depression and emotion dysregulation in multi-problem youth and adults. DET has also been shown to be an effective method of enhancing traditional Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) with anxious youth and adults. DET is an integration of well-established evidence-based treatments for anxiety, depression, emotion dysregulation, and trauma aimed at targeting multiple problems simultaneously. Participants will be introduced to the theoretical rationale for the bio-social causes of anxiety, depression and emotion dysregulation. Participants will also be introduced to the DET treatment modules which integrate key components of: Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Behavioral Activation, Functional Analytic Psychotherapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, and Prolonged Exposure.
